Garden Fresh Carrots

20247911_10100293471947178_6621653713752737520_oThe Weimaraner loves their veggies. The fresher the better. Grandma Terri captured this photo of Maverick (a young Blue Longhair Weimaraner) Crazy for her Garden Fresh Carrots. His big sister (Goldee) is a fan too!20273121_10100293477501048_1441024680_o

Holly Says

They can’t get enough of their carrots!! My moms have even planted each of them their own veggie half barrels. They can’t wait for things to start sprouting!

Many of you who live in Western Oregon know and love Terri Jacobson. She is Grandma extraordinaire and Holly’s Mama too! Beyond those two fabulous roles in her life, she is known to many for her pet and critter photography. She captured these photos last year during a visit to Grandma’s garden.

Things Happen For A Reason! If you would’ve asked me one month ago if I wanted another puppy, I would’ve told you-you were crazy and on drugs, but then we met blue. He had been returned to the breeder for reasons that make no sense to me how could you ever give back a baby!!! ALL puppies are work–Weimers a lot of work. But at the end of the day, they have turned into my favorite dogs! Gunner is so happy to have his new friend!! We love Blue!!! I’m so grateful to have the chance to be in the Weimer family with amazing people and great dogs!! Thank you, Nancy, for bringing this loving baby to me!! ~ Beth

OwyheeStar received word that the puppy (known as Blue) was not working out. Nancy (Weimlover extraordinaire and NW Playdate host) has experience at doing Weimaraner foster care. We contacted her for assistance in picking up Blue, and she also agreed to keep him until we found a second-chance home. Well, as good fortune would have it there was more than one OwyheeStar vetted applicant. Thanks to Nancy’s intervention and transitional work, Blue has made an excellent adjustment to his new family. Thank you, Beth, for bringing him home too! We are happy that he is a fit.

Gunner loves his new brother. If you want to read about young Gunner–click here! Yes, Gunner is a Blue Longhair.

Porsche’s Diary Sunday

      ~March 19, 2017

Porschelongday
The Sun shone today, a rare and welcome occurrence in the Willamette Valley.  I started the day with a hardy breakfast, then Mom and I were off to a play date with my Vizsla friend.  When we came, home Mom found lots of things to do outside while I romped in the kennel.  I helped with the backyard lawn mowing by putting my fetch toy down in the tall grass in front of the mower.  Mom stopped and threw it for me every time.  After dinner, I sprawled on the couch; put my paw on Papa’s arm, and said enough fun for one day. It is good to know Porche keeps great note of her activity filled life. Senior flexibility exercise accomplished (by helping her causing the frequent dismount of the lawn mower). There is no end to the way the Weimaraner improves our physical and emotional fitness. Thank you, JuneAnn for the short updates featuring you and Porche’s life.

Henry

Time Flies

Henry At 9 MonthsI can’t believe this guy is almost one. It’s been a crazy 9 months with him. Overall he’s a pretty good dog. Just a few quirks to work, like barking at the smallest noise, and how he greets new people, he struggles to sit and wait to be greeted. Happy to report we have very little weim crime. The worst was my Fitbit, but that was months ago. Now he mostly tells on himself when he is trying to get in trouble. He brings his loot, socks or a stuffed animal, right to us, and drops it on command. Lol.

Even the most diligent Weim family will end up with some quirks. We have seen so many folks get a second or third Weimaraner–citing how they want to avoid the mistakes they made the first time. It seems in the effort to avoid one thing, something else develops. (It is a lot like raising our human children–each is unique.)

We prefer the too friendly (jump up and greet) Weimaraner to the fearfully aloof type. Each has their set of challenges. Teaching them to sit and wait to be greeted is a good idea. We didn’t say it was easy, but at nine months if they are doing fairly well it is a good thing.

The Weimaraner is a Watch Dog–not a Guard Dog. This trait means they want to alert you to anything that concerns them–it might be a butterfly or leaf. Goodness, if it is a dog, cat or a person they might sound a more concerned alarm. The big issue is the habitual barking thing. Once a behavior starts, it can be tough (and sometimes impossible) to stop. It becomes the norm. Nonetheless, with the type of relationship you have developed, there is a good chance you can thwart the behavior because Henry wants to please you. Thank you, for the update and all you have done with (and for) your OwyheeStar.

Timber

And It Beginsminors-timber-_20170115_121244561_hdr

Thank you, Shela for the additional information. Your emails have been truly invaluable to us as we are raising a pup for the first time. Timber is settling in very well. She is sleeping in her crate at night and naps there during the day as well. We are all learning the importance of praising Timber’s good behaviors, and are already seeing that payoff, as Timber is already learning what is and isn’t okay to chew on, and that going potty outside results in lots of love 🙂

The OwyheeStar blog content…

306674_4840208887531_375238369_nThe OwyheeStar News Blog has many aspects.

We hope to incorporate all these categories into your daily read and possibly more– education, information, entertainment, and news of other OwyheeStar Weims. Photos are important. Quality is valued; photo content (and context) speaks to the heart. Above Indy and Ilsa take the motor home out for a spin. We think that qualifies as inspiration, as well as entertainment.

Blog Contributors……

Indy and Ilsa are not new to our blog. They are frequent contributors. We truly appreciate the photos, and their constant entertainment (and the blog-material coming from their antics). Weims tend to take on the personality of their humans don’t you think? So what does this say about the humans in this household?  We will not comment on that further. We so appreciate the photos, the news, and anything you send our direction. Your updates keep the blog going.

PS: We have written permission to use these photos. All rights are reserved unless you have written permission. Please do not borrow photos without getting permission. This leads to good news. Indy and Ilsa will be featured in the OwyheeStar Store where you can purchase their antics on household items, etc.  Thanks for your consideration. The store is a work in progress. 🙂
