Happy Birthday

     ~May 28th

Dejah1
Dejah Thoris is 1-year old…all 80lbs of her!  And she was the smallest of her litter (Mesquite X Stackhouse).
She loves when we spend weekends working in the yard.

Happy New Year!

~No More tiny Girl!

Zimmerly's Dejah
Well our little girl, Dejah Thoris, has grown BIG. Are you sure she isn’t a Great Dane?  She started out as the smallest dog in the litter! She now outweighs her big sister!  We think she stays inside and eats all the food while Ayla goes out hunting and running around in the backyard. They love to snuggle by the fire!
I think I remember Kaiser being the big boy of the litter!  I joke about the Great Dane because I have had three in my past life…wanted another one but my husband said absolutely not. My daughter joked that Dejah is disguising as a Great Dane!
We absolutely love her! She rules the house!  She is still learning the difference between her toys and other good things to chew up (like my husband’s wallet and credit cards!)  we can never be mad at her too long because she is so cute!!!!

Thank you, for remembering us. The two make a striking couple of co-conspirators looking innocent fireside.

We are often asked to predict the adult size of the Weimaraner. We can make an educated guess, but as you well see, things don’t always go the way they seem. :O)

Maggie

Celebrating Four Years

Santa Maggie.

Hard to believe Maggie turned 4 in December!  Thought we would send some photos of her so you could see how adorable she is.

Maggie found Elfie!

We are still amazed by her awesome personality and spunky spirit.  She keeps us young–but she has truly been one of the best dogs we have ever had!  Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Years!

Dear Phil and Gretchen–we appreciate you folks thinking about us. It looks like Maggie is enjoying life and that she helped make Christmas a lot of fun. Yes, we love her photos. We always enjoy hearing about Maggie and seeing her photos–as do others.

Six-Months-Old

Need I Say More?

Hartung's Koda_1436

It’s crazy to see how much Koda has grown in the 4 months we’ve had him.  He used to fit on my lap with no problems and now… well not so much. LOL!  He’s doing great.  Typical 6 months old.

Hartung's Koda_1435

You Know What I Mean

Ornery, loveable, too smart, counter-surfer and a huge cuddle bug!!!  Every day I’m reminded why we added another Weim to the family.

Weim Mentoring

Koda has taken on several behaviors from our 13-year-old, Gabriel.  He drools while waiting for you to put the food in his bowl, has to be with one of us constantly and thinks the couch/bed is their property just to name a few.  They are truly incredible animals!!!  Thanks again for adding so much to our family!

Thank you, Chris, for the glimpse into raising your Koda. We know there have been challenges of the sort you would expect. Nonetheless, you have dug deep and accommodated the new fur-family-member. You are in the thick of adolescent behavior issues, but here you are working at the keyboard with your new kid helping you (tongue-in-cheek humor). The rewards are many, but we understand what it takes to make all this happen. Keep up the great work, and we appreciate your frequent updates on the process–as do our readers.

Dear Ellie, I see your kitty is still stalking you—or more aptly getting in your space in your previous report ( click here to see Ellie and her kitty in an earlier OwyheeStar Blog).

It is hard to imagine how life could be more to your liking even though you share your space. The furniture looks comfortable, the blankets cozy. We know the stove will soon be lite to keep you toasty warm. What more could a girl want?

It’s hard to get any work done with Koda climbing on me and my keyboard!  LOL!  I’m not sure what he wants but he’s determined to get my attention.

As soon as I tell him to get down he heads for my trash can and grabs a piece of paper. He is way to smart!  Sure do love this guy!!!Hatung's Koda_1347

         ~ Our Seven Years

Seven years ago my best friend was born. Since then, there have been chewed up passports, coffee spills, emergency vet visits, stitches, and so many tears. But there has also been joy and laughter. There have been couch snuggles, long hikes to hidden mountain lakes, 9-hour road trips full of ears flapping in the wind and loud tunes. There has been so much love. Thank you for loving me in the most unconditional manner, and allowing me to love you.

Dejah is Home

Who’s in my spot?

Zimmerly's Dejah_4506-2
Ayla (Vizsla) is really quite thrilled with the new toy we brought home for her!  Dejah Thoris is doing great and has her first vet appointment on Friday.

Who can say how the introduction of the new Weimaraner will go? Sometimes it works surprisingly well, and other times it can be met with a damper. Regardless, here is a situation that by all appearances where things are working well, except Ayla is wondering why this pup has stolen her seat.

Much-Loved

Koda

Hartung's Koda_1244Oh we love him so very, very much!!!!   He’s super loving, smart and just ornery enough to make you laugh often!!!  Wouldn’t trade him for the world.
Hartung's Koda_1243

Koda still doesn’t like being in a crate while we are gone!   A carabiner solved the getting out issue but I have no idea how he got the zipper on his bed open to tear up the foam.  I guess we take out everything except his stuffy while we are gone now. His crating seems to be going backwards.  Koda doesn’t realize how stubborn his dad is though. Ha-ha! 🙂

I just wish he would do better when we were gone.  I’m sure part of it is due to how much time he spends with me during the day. Working from home isn’t always a good thing. We are talking about taking him to the doggy day care one day a week some friends of ours take their dogs to. I think that would be good for him.  Don’t worry, he’s not going anywhere!!!  🙂

Breeder’s Comment

I don’t suppose Koda can blame this on the neighbor’s dog.

The Unfolding Saga

Coffee Run

Hartung's Koda_1098I took a couple of pictures on our daily trip to Dutch Bros for coffee this morning.  It’s about a 5-minute drive but poor Koda was pooped.  LOL!  Gabriel wanted his time in the camera too.Hartung's Gabriel_1096

We are sure loving this little guy!  He’s already grown in the 2.5 weeks since joining our family! :O) ~ Chris

It is a process to figure out how you can make things work. There is no simple solution. Possibly it is best to embrace each obstacle and look at it as a bonding experience. What we love the most about this update is how you incorporate the Weim kids into your schedule. Coffee anyone; everyone?

Yesterday, we read about Koda’s crate-training experience.
