~Not Something you See Every Day
Here is our Dasher, our Weimaraner version for Snoopy on his doghouse!
He has grown into such handsome lad.
We are quarantined but also enjoying our boys antics.
Hope you and Cliff are staying safe and sound.
Dave & Audrey
What a guy–Dasher put a smile on my heart. Thank you for remembering us and sharing your sweet photo.
I just had to share some recent pics from her recent beach adventure. My favorite is the first–
Lily goes to a doggie day care (A dog SITTER) with a family who opened a dog sitting service. Most pups stay 7-5. But if you go out of town. They keep them overnight. I started using them because they had a Weim. His name was Hatcher. They understand Lily and have a special place in their heart for her. This is where she stays with the day care once a week, and stays with them every time I need a place for Lily overnight.
They had planned to only have day camp dogs when I asked if they could keep Lily over overnight, they said yes–and took her camping. It is the first camping trip in a tent on the beach for Lily. They did beach day and the other dogs left, and Lily camped at the beach with the family. They lost their Weim (not too long ago) and are not ready for another dog, but just love love our Lily. So here are some day and night time pics from her adventure. Of course my favorite is the one she looks like ET w her blanket and headlamp on–at the top of this post.
Not everyone can or does use daycare–but several OwyheeStar Weims seem to benefit. Whether this is doable or not will depend upon early socialization, the particular Weimaraner, and the available options. Some Weims love going to daycare–for certain families, it is essential to have this option available — what an extraordinary situation for Lily with a Weim-loving family.
~Update from Captain Rod
A smart trainer/breeder once told me that the best life insurance you can give your dog is to train him well so all of your friends and relatives will love him and want him if something happens to his owner. If something ever happened to me, my friends would fight over who gets Sunny.
One of the many things I love most about my OwyheeStar blue Weimaraner is he absolutely loves everybody from little kids to adults. He’s not just attached to me, he’s happy to be on a new lap from a new friend.
Around Christmas every year we go up to Lake Tahoe to visit friends and enjoy the snow. My two friends also have two labradors that Sunny has fun wrestling with. When he’s bounding through the deep snow in the forest, he’s truly in his element. On the way home, we visited two more friends that have 2 very sweet and high drive hunting dogs that he met. The rules were a bit more flexible in this household, and the dogs and humans dined together. Sunny gets along with other dogs very well, but if he’s mounted, he will object with some growling and barking. Can’t blame him there.
Sunny and I have come to some agreements a long time ago, and he’s flexible in various situations. He will stay on his bed if necessary and behave quietly, or if the rules are loose, he’ll party with other dogs as crazy as ever. He’ll happily ride in the backseat on long trips for as long as necessary. He heels off leash, and runs free on walks when it’s safe. His training of me is almost complete I’ve been told.
You may or may not remember Sunny’s earliest beginning on the catamaran with Rod–click here. I have often dreamed of sailing with Sunny–and I suppose it is possible (www.sailfuncat.com ), but we are pretty much tied to OwyheeStar for now. It makes is very happy to know Sunny continues to delight others and is a great companion for Rod. Happy New Year to you, Sunny, and your humans, too.
~Then and Now
Some things never change
The Weimaraner breed is known for “counter surfing” of food is left out. We didn’t have to worry about that with Roxy, but this one is BOLD! And unfortunately, her daddy doesn’t discipline her on the furniture boundaries, so I’m always on my toes. Other than that, she is well behaved & we’re all learning.
And well–We have ourselves a counter-surfer! 🤦🏼♀️ This little bitch just ate an entire pack of Hawaiian rolls.
You know our disclaimer–Haha. You are great Weim-loving folks. Willow most certainly isn’t Roxy, but she is loved, celebrated, and challenging all rolled into one package.
~Running Through the snow
We hope you enjoy this video of Dasher, dashing through the snow. He’s a happy pup and a bundle of energy all year round!
Happy Holidays ~ Audrey and Dave
This video seemed perfect for our Sunday post. Thank you, Dave and Audrey, for the cute video of your Dasher playing in the snow.
~ With Kula Bleu
They dogs are loving their Carhartt jackets and they are getting used to their boots, although Kula will still only let me put them in his back paws!
Brent–thanks for thinking of us; it means so much. We know everyone will love these photos of the two, and how Kula Bleu doesn’t wear all four boots.
~ Our Snuggle Bug Rides
Here are some photos of Remy Blue in the car. She enjoys sitting in the car regardless of whether or not it is moving.
It seems we are in a season of challenges; there are so many of our friends and family who are going through difficult times. We’re keeping both you and Cliff in our prayers. Please give Cliff a big hug from us. Remy Blue especially would be there to snuggle close to him.
Blessings to you and your family,
We are overwhelmed in a good way –by the generosity, love, care, and your response in our time of need. We are delighted to know that Remy is thriving and an integral part of your life. Thank you for this update. We are sure everyone will enjoy seeing Remy. Might we suggest you click here to read the last blog featuring Remy Blue?!?
~At the Beach
Lily spends this time of year at the beach. Sometimes we have to travel for our son and our dog sitter takes all the dogs to the beach. Lily was scared of the ocean last year, but she has worked her way into the water. She absolutely loves her time with our dog sitter.
The whole family runs the dog sitter service. Their two kids help and Lily is so loved. It is so comforting to have a place for her when I have to travel.
The best part, I get back a happy, exhausted Weim. We all know a tired Weimaraner is the best! She is such a blessing to us. She fills our heart with love and our days with laughter.
It looks like Lily is the perfect kind of tired. With your life-demands we can see how this is the perfect solution. Thank you, for loving her so much.
~12 Years Young
Emma is 12 years young I don’t have any secrets on how she has been able to stay active and young at heart other than her DNA, lots of love.
Alice (our second OwyheeStar) and Emma is a very special girls to our family. We are overjoyed that Emma is still so healthy. We thank you so much for our amazing best friends ♥️♥️♥️We love them so much We will continue to update Thank you again for your blogs too!
Thank you guys. This is especially good news–12 good years is excellent. We hope for more of the same.
~ Part Four
Remy Blue is instinctively a hunting dog. She loves to point, fetch and explore. She’s already chased a small bobcat out of our backyard and saved our suburban chickens. She’s fierce.
Now that we have grandmom recuperating from hip surgery and living with us, Remy Blue’s behavior has been quite gentle when around her. We count this as a true blessing and are amazed at her ability to discern when to be calm, relaxed in her mannerisms.
Then again, Remy Blue’s toys are another issue altogether!
We’re having a wonderful time with Remy Blue being part of our family. In fact, off and on we’ve been discussing getting a “brother” for Remy Blue. After seeing the photo of the two Weims peering out the window, we’re convinced we should do it when Remy Blue turns 2 years old.
Thank you for a wonderful being; Remy Blue is exceptional and quite a character. She’s never at a loss for expressing herself. She’s a love.
Dear Sayho–we look forward to working with you again when you become a Two Weim family. We appreciate this lovely detail (photo filled) update. I am sure our readers feel likewise. Thanks ever so much–have a lovely summer with Remy Blue.
