Nightly Rituals
Do you have one? Of course, we mean with the Weimaraner. The bedtime ritual seems to be a theme. The routine established is hard to undo. Keep this in mind as the fun begins. Will it be fun for you five years from now? Who can guess? Disappointing the Weimaraner is not readily embraced. Their stare-down look. The pout.
The rituals or routine activities are the Weim’s life. There is no going back.
Linda (Maizie’s Mom) writes, “This is a nightly ritual here.”
Maizie started this and now she expects this every single night when we are ready to get into bed! Often Jerry is too tired, but the happy gleeful look on her face with a toy in her mouth and wagging tail is too much to ignore‼️😉.

Henry
~Loves that I Work the Nightshift
I work night shift, which means 12 days per month, I sleep during the day. It’s the one thing I don’t like about my job, but the one thing Henry loves!!! He doesn’t sleep with us at night, Kevin’s hard rule since we got him 3.5 years ago.
Like all Weims, routines are gospel, Henry knows when I walk in the door at 8 am that we are about to have some serious snuggle time, he stands right by my side while I make myself a little breakfast (of course patiently waiting for me to share something), and then I say the magic words, “you want to go to bed?” Henry runs up the stairs and straight to his blanket on the bed. Every once in a while he wakes me up, but most of the time, it’s Kevin waking us both up with coffee and opening the curtains. Hen is just as reluctant as me to open his eyes and get going.
I don’t know why Weims are a labeled as the crazy always energetic dogs, Henry sleeps all night, and happily settles in for another 5-7 hours with mommy!!!

The Weimaraner indeed loves to sleep–, especially with their humans. They can settle in for an afternoon of television and popcorn, too. It always amazes me that Stackhouse has been up less than an hour and he is crashed on the floor snoozing away. I guess beauty sleep is a Weimar thing too.
Snuggling
~On A Saturday Morning
Saturday morning bed snuggles with Juneaux (Timber’s sister)- she is such a great part of our family, and has become such a great family dog. She loves her daddy and worries a bit when he’s not here:)

Charlie Mae and Murphy–Part One
~ Home For the Holidays
It’s been TOO long since my last update to you! We are having a wonderful Holiday Season at the Spight house. Charlie Mae and Murphy are doing great and have fully taken to their roles as our Fur Children! Charlie is now 6, and Murphy is 5.
Shared Covers
They sleep with us EVERY night, Murphy prefers to be full-on under the covers (usually rotates to have his face sticking out at some point). Charlie likes to rotate between being partially under the covers and out of the covers (I think she gets too hot). The movement back and forth drives Jill a little crazy, but she still likes to snuggle with them throughout the night also, so they remain as permanent bed companions it seems.

We loved seeing your annual Christmas Tree Lighting with Charlie Mae. I saw someone copied you–it was a Facebook post a few days ago. Don’t worry Charlie Mae–they cannot be considered the same as you–a Christmas Poster Girl.

Roxy
Crazy hunting dogs!
Can you spot the dark spot beyond the tire and the snow–it is a porcupine.
You know these critters we love and adore. Yes, I am speaking of the Weimaraner. We adopted a couple of adults from Cliff and Shela–one was Roxy. Let it suffice to say they each have their things–one chews plastic. There is the toting of gloves, shoes, etc. You know quite possibly for what I speak. A person has to be on alert always, and it seems never to end. Roxy had been restless for some time at night. Mothers hear the rustling and the moving because our ear is attuned to it. I had been wondering what might be the problem. Anyhow, I spotted this critter thanks to Roxy.
I am merely doing my job
Mike had to work yesterday, which is unusual for a Sunday. There sat the porcupine gnawing on a log in our back “yard” about 30 feet or so from the house. This taunting action (that troubled Roxy to no end) went on for a couple of hours. Roxy was very excited and drove me crazy.
I finally went out the front door and walked the two Weim kids (Roxy and Sage) because Mike was taking forever to get home. He came home and got rid of it for me. Now there are quills everywhere. Roxy was on high alert up until she finally crashed for the night.
Last night was the first night in a long time when Roxy wasn’t stirring… Maybe this is what has been bothering her, though it could have been anything like deer, raccoons, coyotes, etc. Putting up the 7-foot fence up was worth every penny.
I think we need to shut off the sensor light Mike put in at night, though if there is a full moon, it doesn’t matter.

The Weimaraner has an incredible scenting ability. They also seem to be able to spot critters. Who can guess if the night light turning on is her alert? Maybe not, but quite possibly. In our experience, it doesn’t take much to trigger the sensor lights, and they flip on. Many a night I have gotten up to see what triggered our light to find nothing and to conclude it was probably a night prowling kitty.
Moments
Etched on the Heart
~of the Weimlover
Where do we begin? For the Weimlover there are inexplicable moments etched in our psyche. There is no ready made explanation to those who don’t get it. We nod to those who think they understand but never have experienced the Weimar. They say, “it is just like my Labrador.” We nod and smile and our thoughts spin. We think something like if they only knew.
What we share extends around the clock. For many, this includes snuggling in the bed and waking to something like ‘Dunkin’ looking at you expectantly. Sometimes the look is more of a seriously it cannot be time to get up look. Or possibly there is the look that says are we going to do something fun–like eating people breakfast together.
Yesterday, we delighted in Tripp’s story. He and Rachel share a special connection. If you were to know the backdrop on both sides, it would bring tears to your eyes. Call us silly, but we believe the Good Lord brings the most incredible people across our path. Sometimes we are allowed to share something extraordinary. It might be that we are afforded the opportunity to help a dream unfold, to bring a little healing, or to take part in a minor miracle. What a privilege it is indeed.
OwyheeStar Meet Ups
You never know whether Tripp and Dunkin might meet up in one of their many adventures. Tripp gets around Oregon. Dunkin (as far as we know) hangs closer to the Bend area. I am sure he makes it to the Oregon Coast and the other major venues. Maybe their paths will cross, or they will connect with another OwyheeStar Weim. We are positive that there is a special look for that experience too! Oh, how these guys delight our heart in ways words cannot capture.

There is no doubt the snapshot speaks. It is a special one. Two Weims and a Kitty–both Weimaraners are Blue. One is a Longhair and the other the traditional smooth coat. Behind the obvious, there is a magical backdrop. If you don’t remember the story, or you missed it, less than two months ago Blue (the smooth coat Blue Weimaraner) joined the family. ~ Right Mama?!?
Does your Weimaraner sleep with you or get snuggle time on (or in) the bed? The debate about whether you should allow your dog in your bed is a thing. Ultimately, it is a personal choice. Some reports indicate that nearly 80% of dog owners allow their pet in their bed. Do you?
