Don’t Let It Happen To You
AKC Reunite Reports that One in three pets will go missing in its lifetime — and it can happen in an instant.
We admit those numbers seem high to us. Most OwyheeStar puppy folks never lose track of their Weimaraner. That is not to say it doesn’t happen. All our OwyheeStar pups leave with the AKC Reunite Microchip–but each family must register their chip. Beyond the microchip, you should consider other identification–such as a tag securely attached to their collar or harness.
Should you include your dog’s name on their collar? Including your pet’s name on their collar is a common practice, but is it a good idea? Cliff suggests it is better to exclude the pet’s name. Instead, provide your name, location, and a couple of phone numbers where you can be reached..
Providing your pup’s name on the collar can make it easier for someone else to appear to be the owner–because they are calling them by their name. Anyhow, it is food for thought.
While the microchip registered to you ensures you are listed as the owner, veterinarians, and other pet professionals do not scan every dog they encounter. Suspicious behavior might alert them to the need, but possibly they are pressed for time and feeling they are overreacting–even a new dog client may not be scanned. And keep in mind that merely recording an ID in their folder is not going to alert anyone. You see where we are going with this–two things. 1. Be sure to register your microchip. 2. Be sure to have identification on your pet’s collar. No one wants to become a statistic.
Should you happen to get separated, with your pet’s microchip registered through AKC Reunite, getting back together is more likely.

Maybe you remember Kali Blue and her story. Yesterday, she was reunited with Phillip. We all know what these wonderful creatures mean to us–in some cases, they literally save our lives. Quite possibly there are no words to cover how they touch our soul.
The time lost–cannot be gotten back. Nonetheless, each day they have is a precious gift.
Let’s all remember Phillip and Kali Blue and pray that she can make a quick adjustment. After all, we are talking about the Weimaraner–change is very hard. We wish her all the best from here on out.
Today–we join in the celebration of her return. Uh–thank God for microchips, too! Folks –be sure to register those microchips. Every OwyheeStar puppy leaves with the AKC Reunite Microchip.

The Essential Microchip
Our OwyheeStar puppies are microchipped before they leave for their new forever home. We use the unparallelled AKC Reunite Microchip. It is; however, essential to register the microchip — to ensure you are listed as the Weimaraner’s owner.
We all know who really owns whom. Nevertheless, should Weimar become separated or misplaced, that number will reunite you more quickly. It is scary as unthinkable to find yourself wondering where they are and if you will get them back. Be sure you have registered the microchip with AKC Reunite –it is not enough to have it on file with your Veterinary office.

April 15-21, 2018
We embrace the microchip concept for our OwyheeStar puppies. Every pup leaves with the AKC Reunite Microchip implanted. All our puppy family must do is to register their chip (pay a small lifetime fee) with AKC Reunite. Honestly, if you don’t register the microchip is probably not going to do much good.
Let’s not forget the 4th of July and the hoopla associated with it fills shelters to the brim. These hardworking folks do their best to get every pup back to their family; however, it is an arduous process. This one step does more than anything to get your pup back to and along with the ID collar increases your odds of return astronomically.
Did you register the microchip? We sincerely hope you did. Here is more information from AKC Reunite. Our experience has been positive–they are accommodating.
If a neighbor finds your dog, a pet ID tag is the fastest and most efficient way to be reunited with your pet. However, ID tags can fade or fall off, or your pet’s collar can be removed. This is when an enrolled microchip with up-to-date contact information links you and your pet to help ensure you are reunited with your lost or stolen pet.

Are you moving across town or the country? If you have moved or are moving one thing that is often forgotten is to update the Microchip Registry. Better yet, before you move make sure your contact information is up to date. What if the unforeseen happened during the relocation? Moving is demanding. All the packing and logistics of the relocation takes a concerted effort on your part. We understand how easy it would be to forget this little detail. Did You Forget Altogether?
When you took home the OwyheeStar puppy, it was microchipped. Our records indicate a percentage of you didn’t register with AKC Reunite. The fee is a one-time thing. That is your only cost for the microchip. We have you covered. Inside your portfolio, there were three papers all containing the microchip number.
- The OwyheeStar Health Record
- The AKC Reunite Portfolio
- The Veterinary Report
All three of these records can be found in the front flap slot of your puppy record folder. We talk a lot of people who feel displaced during the holiday season. Pets can also be left out of the mix and the Weimaraner, in particular, could suffer from anxiety. Separation anxiety often surfaces during a time of change or when the Weimar is left behind.

Yesterday, was National Pet Day. I should have posted this then, but it is better late than never. The Importance of registering your microchip cannot be overstated. Halloween saw a Boise man’s dog end up at the shelter. He struggled to get his dog home. Click here to read his story

Today Trigger is an integral part of his family’s life. He goes on most vacations and spends a lot of time hanging out. There are walks with Mom too!

Almost two years ago we upgraded to this fabulous program called AKC Reunite. Anytime after spring 2014, your OwyheeStar Weimaraner Puppy came home with the AKC Reunite Microchip installed There was also paperwork in your packet to help you register that microchip. If you have not registered the AKC Reunite Microchip with the AKC Reunite Organization we urge you to do so.
Cliff is aware of the number of chips registered, but not to whom they were registered. If you have lost your paperwork just have your Vet office scan for the microchip and use the number to get them registered. Having them associated with the AKC Reunite Program might pay off in ways you never dream. Please read on about Trigger’s recent experience.
Trigger Went Missing
Thank you, thank you thank you for microchipping your pups before they leave your home. Our Trigger is now safe at home. Our daughter accidently left.our gate open and we couldn’t find him. So relieved to get a text saying our pet has been found. What a blessing. I don’t know what we would’ve done. We all cried when we picked him up. They think a female is in heat and that’s why he took off. Time to invest in an invisible fence since the vet suggested waiting to neuter him till he’s a year old. Whew. Crisis averted thanks to Owyheestar!

The AKC reunite is who sent me a notification that he was found and gave me a number to call. The humane society also called me. So I had two different people helping him get home. Yes! Please use our story on the blog so it will help others. ~ Natalie

Greetings From Far Eastern Oregon
Thanksgiving is around the corner. Christmas decor is for sale nearly every place you shop. Winter weather has knocked on the door promising to come sooner than many of us desire. Farmers are busy getting the fall field work completed. We are sure most of them are looking forward to a winter break.
Hattee’s predominantly Longhair Litter has been the focus. There were nine pups; seven were Longhair. A lot goes on behind the scene with the pups we raise. Christina has been extremely busy–she not only socializes them but keeps a sharp eye on them for any little issue that might arise. We are truly blessed to have her helping us.

On a very personal note
Cliff is always working on his outside projects. He got his water issues and electrical stuff working. Being the great guy he is he managed to get me a few solutions in my make-shift kitchen. I truly appreciate it too!
The lower cabinets are not completed, nor the countertops, backsplash, etc. We have been creative to get by. We had an extra good sized storage cabinet (no photo here) that is nearly floor to ceiling tall. It had two drawers–hurrah! I do love drawers and pullouts, who doesn’t? Now I have two drawers for the silverware and serving utensils. We were far more creative with finding other drawers. Cliff has plans for this when I no longer need it.
Our son built the cabinet boxes. They need fronts, doors, shelving, or in some cases drawers. We have installed some shelves and made better use of the space. We are slowly getting this kind of thing done. It was never our plan to be fancy. We wanted the practical, conservative and functional remodeled farm house. I appreciate these small changes more than you can imagine. It makes my life easier.

There is no way we could ever thank you enough for your love and support. We are immensely grateful for those who continually provide us with the material for the blog. Unfortunately, sometimes this is only photos and no script. We can fill in a bit when necessary; however, we like to keep the integrity of your writing real. A couple of sentences can go a long way–sometimes it is enough. Those that have sent us updates know we are more than likely to post it word-for-word.
There is no end in sight of our farmhouse remodel. We are doing it ourselves, and it is the installment plan–we are not borrowing to do this. We buy something and install it. Therefore, having the updates is greatly appreciated than usual–it is always a blessing!

We want to write to say hello, and to say we hope is going well with you. Gracie is doing well; however, some things just take time…even dog training! We are working with Gracie (11 weeks old today) and she loves to do a perfect sit as long as the dog food “treat” is coming her way. Working on following Cliff’s advice on not giving to many treats. She is also learning “place” – her Minky lined dog bed.
The AKC Reunite Microchip
We just received our AKC Reunite tag for Gracie and now her micro-chip is tagged to our personal information and phone number. She is a darling girl and is especially sweet and loving.

Breeder’s Note: We recently changed our microchip system. We now use the AKC Reunite Microchip (from the American Kennel Club). If you brought home a spring 2014 OwyheeStar Weimaraner, they will have the new microchip. This must be registered with AKC. Recording it at your veterinary’s office is not enough. Inside the puppy packet (in the front flap’s slit) you will find the information, along with the health record. Should your puppy ever come up missing (God forbid), or should you need to prove the pup belonged to you, the best proof is the microchip. Please register your microchip with AKC–its important!
