Our Lily
~ From the beach to snow–no problem
You might remember we recently relocated to Colorado, and we were sad to say goodbye to Lily’s day care friends–and her life spent on the beach. We wondered how she would adapt to the change. Lily adjusting from beach dog to snow dog–here is the evidence. Lol

My Birthday
~And This Happened

We always think of you, Lily is a constant happy reminder.

Today was my birthday. As we are all in shelter in place we took a drive to Monterey CA.

We are ever so happy that this OwyheeStar is a delight to you, and helped you celebrate your COVID-19 birthday. Thanks for thinking of us–and what a lovely day you had.
Lily’s Mom
I just had to share some recent pics from her recent beach adventure. My favorite is the first–

Lily goes to a doggie day care (A dog SITTER) with a family who opened a dog sitting service. Most pups stay 7-5. But if you go out of town. They keep them overnight. I started using them because they had a Weim. His name was Hatcher. They understand Lily and have a special place in their heart for her. This is where she stays with the day care once a week, and stays with them every time I need a place for Lily overnight.

They had planned to only have day camp dogs when I asked if they could keep Lily over overnight, they said yes–and took her camping. It is the first camping trip in a tent on the beach for Lily. They did beach day and the other dogs left, and Lily camped at the beach with the family. They lost their Weim (not too long ago) and are not ready for another dog, but just love love our Lily. So here are some day and night time pics from her adventure. Of course my favorite is the one she looks like ET w her blanket and headlamp on–at the top of this post.

Not everyone can or does use daycare–but several OwyheeStar Weims seem to benefit. Whether this is doable or not will depend upon early socialization, the particular Weimaraner, and the available options. Some Weims love going to daycare–for certain families, it is essential to have this option available — what an extraordinary situation for Lily with a Weim-loving family.
Lulu and Lyla
~on our heels at all times

Lulu & Lyla are are on our heels at all times ( just like our last two Weimaraners)! If we shower we had better make sure the rugs are down, if not we better lay down our clothes so they can keep an eye on us while we shower! This surely must be a sign that we are good dog parents as they cannot get enough of us! Wish our twin almost 14 year old girls felt the same!
Thank you for these faithful, loving and furry kids!

For those who like their personal space or privacy, we say keep on traveling toward a different breed. The Velcro Weimar is all about being in your space–touching you, having your things. Oh yeah! You Weimlovers know what we are talking about–don’t even think about the Weimaraner.
Lily
~At the Beach

Lily spends this time of year at the beach. Sometimes we have to travel for our son and our dog sitter takes all the dogs to the beach. Lily was scared of the ocean last year, but she has worked her way into the water. She absolutely loves her time with our dog sitter.

The whole family runs the dog sitter service. Their two kids help and Lily is so loved. It is so comforting to have a place for her when I have to travel.

The best part, I get back a happy, exhausted Weim. We all know a tired Weimaraner is the best! She is such a blessing to us. She fills our heart with love and our days with laughter.

It looks like Lily is the perfect kind of tired. With your life-demands we can see how this is the perfect solution. Thank you, for loving her so much.
Greetings from Sonoma County!
~Adventures with Smokey

It’s been a cold and wet few weeks here. The mountain tops and hills around us have had a dusting of snow, which is a beautiful site since it’s not an annual thing here. Much better to see white where not long ago there was smoke and an orange glow.

Smokey has been on many adventures with his best friend and family. We just recently went to the beach with 70-degree weather. Next stop is the snow. We had to change plans this weekend due to the almost impassable Sierra Nevada roads up to our cabin in So Lake Tahoe. Hopefully, we will update you with snow photos!
Other adventures include riding in the little car with dad to pick the boys up from school, dressing like dad, Starbucks dates with mom, walks, riding in the back of the big truck with fluff blowing in the breeze around town, and lots of play at the dog park with sister weim (penny) and new friends. Mom has a good time too, watching all the crazy dog people just like her.
He even has his own zip up hoody like brothers’ to keep him warm. Not so sure he even knows he’s a dog? He sure does bark with disapproval when mom puts all the dogs outside before work. But mom knows it’s a better alternative to being stuck in his cave all day until dad gets home. Luckily Penny distracts his resentment with her annoying, playful nips, as the older dogs look on with boredom.
It’s a perfect mix of personalities in their pack hierarchy. Just like their humans.
Thanks for such a perfect pup!

We are so happy to hear about Smokey–the adventures as well as his place within the family. I am sure this will be read and enjoyed by many OwyheeStar fans. Thank You–Niki, for taking the time to put together such an excellent update.
Exploring
The First Snow
~ With Chloe

Chloe explores the backyard after our first real snow of the year, unfortunately, it’s been all rain since and the snow didn’t stick around for long. Snow tends to get packed in her feet creating what I call ‘toe-fur-sickles’.

We brought an 8 week old Chloe home at the end of November 2016, Soon after we had a foot or more of snow and while house training Chloe she became so accustomed to going potty in the snow that as the spring came and snow melted she would seek out the remaining patches of snow to potty on. Silly dog. We’re so excited about adding another fluffy puppy to our family soon and while there will be an adjustment phase- we think Chloe will be a great big sister for our next pup.

We are thrilled to get this lovely update. Snow–well I think most Weims prefer it to rain. (Haha) We cannot wait until you meet your new fluffy family member. Thank you, for being a loyal OwyheeStar family.
Two Years Old
Smokey
~2-Hours Spa Treatment

Hope this message is finding you both in good spirits. Just wanted to drop in to say, again, how much we love this sweet boy. He is definitely my husbands fluffy baby. He just got a 2-hour pampering visit with the mobile groomer and smells like blueberries (my husband bought him a blueberry facial, but I’m still waiting for him to get me a facial)
He loves the extra attention and I think he knows he has my husband wrapped around his paw.

Maybe you noticed Smokey’s eye–it is quite evident. If you want to read more about his condition, click here to read a former blog. We appreciate how cherished, and pampered Mr. Smokey is –and that he brings your family joy. Thank You for everything! Happy Birthday, Smokey!

Niki Reports
~about his eye
Smokey had his first annual left eye check-up exam today. The doctor (an amazing local eye specialist) said his pressures were stable and he didn’t show any signs of inflammation. Unfortunately, he has developed new scarring on his cornea and cataracts ☹️😔. She did say, however, as long as it doesn’t become inflamed he should be fine until his next check-up next year.Worst case scenario; he needs surgery to remove the left eye. So thankfully his right eye is perfectly working. He definitely is more guarded and startled when it comes to that eye since his vision is blurred. Otherwise, we don’t even notice and love him unconditionally. We knew going into it (taking him home and becoming part of our furever family) that he had a cloudiness in that eye.
He Won Our Hearts
Shela and Cliff were appreciate that you were very informative about the situation. We still chose to go forward with taking him. He won our hearts then and still does now. He gets pampered every night and probably babied a little more now. Next edition of our Smokey Saga will be the grooming process. Never in a million years would I thought of having a higher maintenance weim after my first (shorthair) weim.

Our Longhair
Chloe

Chloe will be 2 in September and has been doing so well lately with obedience- the key seems to be exercise and planning for variety in her routines. She definitely is prone to the concrete thinking so we make sure to mix it up.Photos: Chloe trudges through any river, puddle or lakeshore she encounters- but does not freely swim. She can swim and will if we are also in the water but she seems to mostly prefer wading in up to her chest. And at the Oregon coast-Chloe’s happiest place on earth. She will run for hours chasing birds on the beach and especially enjoys climbing rocks. We’d really love to add a puppy before Chloe gets too much older and too set in her ways.
