Smokey

  ~2-Hours Spa Treatment

I’m spoiled

Hope this message is finding you both in good spirits. Just wanted to drop in to say, again, how much we love this sweet boy. He is definitely my husbands fluffy baby. He just got a 2-hour pampering visit with the mobile groomer and smells like blueberries (my husband bought him a blueberry facial, but I’m still waiting for him to get me a facial)
He loves the extra attention and I think he knows he has my husband wrapped around his paw.

Maybe you noticed Smokey’s eye–it is quite evident. If you want to read more about his condition, click here to read a former blog. We appreciate how cherished, and pampered Mr. Smokey is –and that he brings your family joy. Thank You for everything! Happy Birthday, Smokey!

We spoke with Niki and Chuck regarding their first Longhair. What we loved was how she said, “Shela, I remember you saying I would never be sorry.” “I am not! We love him even though we wanted the traditional smooth coat. We love him even though he had an eye issue (which you fully disclosed) before we accepted him. Anyhow, they promised to keep us apprised on the eye issue. It may never become serious–or it could end up being a more serious problem. Nonetheless, they assured us they would never regret having him in their life. Do we not meet the most awesome Weimloving folks ever? Yes, we do! Read on about Smokey–the much-loved Longhair.

Niki Reports

~about his eye

Smokey had his first annual left eye check-up exam today. The doctor (an amazing local eye specialist) said his pressures were stable and he didn’t show any signs of inflammation. Unfortunately, he has developed new scarring on his cornea and cataracts ☹️😔. She did say, however, as long as it doesn’t become inflamed he should be fine until his next check-up next year.
Worst case scenario; he needs surgery to remove the left eye. So thankfully his right eye is perfectly working. He definitely is more guarded and startled when it comes to that eye since his vision is blurred. Otherwise, we don’t even notice and love him unconditionally. We knew going into it (taking him home and becoming part of our furever family) that he had a cloudiness in that eye.

He Won Our Hearts

Shela and Cliff were appreciate that you were very informative about the situation. We still chose to go forward with taking him. He won our hearts then and still does now. He gets pampered every night and probably babied a little more now. Next edition of our Smokey Saga will be the grooming process. Never in a million years would I thought of having a higher maintenance weim after my first (shorthair) weim.

More From Shela and Cliff

We look forward to working with you folks again–as discussed. We cannot be happier to hear that Smokey delights you. Also, we appreciate that you care for him in every way. Thank you, for keeping us apprised.

Our Longhair

Chloe

Chloe will be 2 in September and has been doing so well lately with obedience- the key seems to be exercise and planning for variety in her routines. She definitely is prone to the concrete thinking so we make sure to mix it up.
Photos: Chloe trudges through any river, puddle or lakeshore she encounters- but does not freely swim. She can swim and will if we are also in the water but she seems to mostly prefer wading in up to her chest. And at the Oregon coast-Chloe’s happiest place on earth. She will run for hours chasing birds on the beach and especially enjoys climbing rocks.
We’d really love to add a puppy before Chloe gets too much older and too set in her ways.

Breeder Comment

We are glad you love Chloe so much. Well, I love being at home. Nevertheless, if I am able to escape for a vacation let it be the Oregon Coast. We look forward to working with you again soon.

     ~ Now Fascinated with Balloons

As promised. Lily playing balloon volleyball. When we were decorating for parties, she wanted to bad to be included and just was fascinated w the balloons. We quickly learned she would try to not pop the balloons if she could play with us. She loves to be included in everything we do, and we do our best to include her. But now. I can’t get a balloon out of the party supplies without her going nuts. So when it is raining and muddy, this is an extra way to tire her out (and we all are laughing and happy)

Breeder Comment

Well, what to say about this girl. I think she is blessed to have a family who celebrates her. They find ways to include her in their activities. Balloon game is a new thought for us. Honestly, we have seen the opposite–fear it was an alien floating in the sky. This balloon game is delightful.

The lovely Longhair-Virgil

Virgil is such a beautiful dog and I’m so glad to have him as a member of our family.

Skeeter Valentine

He and Skeeter get along well. They run with me, swim at the pool, and visit the dog park. Virgil gets along with all dogs. He’s like this huge mediator…if things start to get weird, he will run at top speed with that fancy tail flying, getting everyone running around once more.

No one can catch him or Skeeter, they’re soooo fast. People always comment on how nice they are and how beautiful they are. I always say it’s the Owyheestar breeding! Happy Holidays to you and thanks again, for my lovely friends.

Breeder Comment

We appreciate the news and the update. It is always good to hear that the OwyheeStar Weimaraners are thriving and much-loved. Virgil was a spur of the moment addition (because he became available) and we are so very delighted to know you love your Longhair. Getting your endorsement means, even more, when it comes from a person like you–a licensed, practicing Vet Tech.

We wish you continued health and wellness. It is a great comfort to know Virgil and Skeeter have so much going for them. Below are the links for the two from their previous pool work posts. Maybe one day there will be the opportunity to update us on their progress further.

It is smokey here from the northern Ca fires, but Lily wanted to run so she had the dog park to herself

22449225_10214171281018568_1147312698_oI call this her happy face. She is so happy whenever she is playing. Thank you for her. She makes us so very happy ~ Catherine

We are so happy (and there seems to be a lot of that going around) that everyone is elated. We can see it is the perfect match for all concerned. Thank you, for celebrating and sharing your joy with all of us!

Ping Pong Anyone?

Lily now wants to play ping pong every time anyone from our family does. It all leads to lots and lots of laughter from all. It has been super hot here lately and these little things keep her busy while also out of the heat.

Breeder Comment

Thank you, Lily, for being you! The fun, as well as healing you bring everywhere you go, is inspirational. Girl–you are a much-loved fur family member. You are the first Weim we ever heard of that plays ping pong too! I think you are full of life and it oozes on everyone around you. Cliff and I love it!

In Missouri

Blue Supervises

We hauled some sand in for our project.

Blue really loves sand I hauled in several ton and he would not leave or let me spread the sand, he stayed there nearly all day.

We do A lot Together

I got both eyes on you!

IMG_1341As you can see by the photos, Blue is getting big. My parents love him too! Oh yea, and loves the water. He is doing really well with shed, pheasant, and rabbit hunting. He spooks out the small game a retrieves them for me.

Breeder Comment

We remember you driving all the way from Southern California to pick up Blue after completing your special mechanic’s training as part of your military assignment there in Missouri. The weather was touch and go, but somehow it worked in your favor.

Safe 4th Of July

graphics-fireworks-399589Happy Birthday, America!

19598437_10213244750335880_8067902691027160628_n

As birthday celebrations go, American’s Independence Day is spectacular. It tends to begin early and drag on for days afterward. This scenario is to many a person and their pet’s chagrin. Even the rock-solid gun dog may well shake and quiver at the barrage of blasts coming from seemingly ever direction. It is no secret that every year shelters are filled to overflowing, and workers are scrambling to reunite pets with their families. We trust everyone has their pet’s microchip on file with AKC Reunite–this can get them back to you quickly should the unthinkable happen.

Separation is not the only untoward situation stemming from this holiday. Fireworks poisoning is a thing–click here to get the details. If it isn’t enough that so many pets are traumatized by the blasts, there are other ways to get into trouble. We don’t want to think about those things on a day like to today, but ingested fireworks can lead to an emergency situation. For the pet that isn’t afraid of anything, they might chase and capture the pod–they might swallow poison or get burned. Then too, while you have your eyes on the sparklers or whatever, who would see the Weimaraner’s stealthy action at the food table or in the garbage. Cooked bones (in particular poultry) can be deadly. Long after the plate is cleaned (or the trash raided) the reality can surface. It is hard to be vigilant 24 X 7 on a day such as today. The Weimaraner is paw-ty smart and manipulative by nature.

Thank you, for including your Weimaraner in the family activities. Only you know what is appropriate. We mention these potential dangers because it is impossible to think of everything in the midst of all we are doing to make the day special. We don’t want your holiday ruined due to one moment you let down your guard. Here’s to hoping everyone comes through without a hitch. Have a fabulous 4th of July!

PS: This photo at the top is of Lily–from her Daycare this week where they celebrated the holiday early.

Laughing Again

Thanks To Lily

I had to share. Lily was extra precious today. The top picture is her watching me fold laundry. The bottom is from her day camp’s Instagram page. They always try to get pictures of her but she doesn’t usually stop long enough. Today they got three! One with two of her “dog buddies”. I can never thank you enough. My son said it best. “Now that we have Lily Mom, we finally laugh again. Really laugh. ❤️

Please, Lily is infamous in her circle of friends and family. Most of her photos find her her wrapped in her human brother’s arms. She is a busy and happy girl. We see her often on Facebook. What can we love more than seeing a family activity and there is the Weimaraner? Nothing much! There is always the question when the family is camping or doing some fun activity, where is their Weim child? We don’t know. Not every activity is Weim friendly; however, some families go to great lengths to be inclusive. We love it.

We are glad Lily has brought healing to the family. You had been through a rough patch of unfortunate circumstances. I think when we walk through catastrophe, we either become bitter and resentful or frame everything in the future as a blessing. We are glad Lily is one of the many blessings. Thank you, for allowing us to be a part of your lives.
