Note: Before CW there was Melvin
The plan was in the works to add a second Weimaraner when Melvin crossed over the rainbow bridge. He could never be replaced, but he had the best possible life–was loved and cherished. Now, Roger and Camille begin a new journey with C. W. They have shared a few comments about their life thus far. It is a bit late in coming. CW left here January 3rd–Roger flew in and carried him home as his airline carryon. Thanks, again for your loyalty Roger. Now, for the story…
Roger Reports — It was a long trip and day. The dog is more than perfect. He is adjusting so well. He is velcro. I got him to go down at 2:00 A..M. I covered the crate with a black sheet for darkness.
He cried for 15 minutes, then he slept. He woke up at 6:00 and cried for 5 minutes. And, then he slept.
It was important that he just cried without being rescued. I’m trying to remember from 11 years ago. We want to be around him 24/7. So, the compromise is hard at first. So, he is bonding really well. I even have him going out the dog door. Trust is the first elementary factor in the process—I think. Thank you again for such a wonderful companion.
I hung the bells and prepared the crate area before I flew up to Boise. We are ringing the bell with him, and out the dog door, he goes into the fenced area. We are starting out right. 10-minute training in the hallway comes tonight. We are determined to get off to a good start.
From Camille — We are in puppy heaven!! Thank you for CW. He is so cute and Roger has him on the way to house trained already. These dogs are so smart. Above is a photo we took of CW and Eliel. It looks like the puppy has trained the baby to hold toys in his mouth!!!
~ At Home
Peach and Kimber are finally best buds! We can’t keep them away from each other. They love to play and rough house all day long! Kimber LOVES being outdoors! She also loves to snuggle.
Thank you both again! Kimber is already part of our family and we are so happy with her.
We love you choice of Names–Kimber. (Haha) Isn’t it fabulous that Peach and Kimber are playing together already? We love hearing that we didn’t disappoint. Thanks for updating us.
~She is adjusting well
Here is a story I thought you would appreciate. Saturday me and My girlfriend Samantha took our puppy to Lowe’s to get some supplies and ran into a gentleman (the name I forgot) who have a beautiful almost 2-year-old blue male Weimaraner named Kota (Dakota) I’m assuming?
He explained he got his dog from you as well and that he got one of the blue males from the same litter as our little girl! Small world! Meanwhile, Athena is having a lot of good experiences beyond the crate training I mentioned last time we spoke.
Also, this link (click here) might be of interest as I am sure she was the main reason we made the news! 2 segments at that!
Hey Nick–we appreciate the cute photos. We are glad that you were able to connect again with Koda’s & Mylo’s family–I am sure you have a playdate in the works. Maybe you didn’t realize it, but yesterday’s blog featured the two Blue boys belonging to the gentleman you met at Lowes.
We hope you will stay in touch–and that your training continues to unfold in an excellent manner. Thanks ever so much for this lovely update.
~ First there was Koda–now Mylo
Mylo is everything we hoped for. He is super lovable and smart. While he may not exactly love his kennel during the day, he’s great at night. He sleeps until I wake him up to go out and goes back to sleep with little to no fuss!
Thank you both for adding this adorable little guy to our family!!!
Five of the ten Dixie pups went to either a direct referral–or more typically a repeat client. Yes, two of these loyal OwyheeStar folks flew into Boise to carry their pup home as their carryon–one to Salt Lake City and the other to New Hampshire.
While we are very cautious about the longer distances, some folks work out to be excellent placements. First, the right kind of Weimaraner placement is more important than location. We do what we can–we also meet the most interesting folks along the way. Thanks to Koda and Mylo’s family who live right here in the Treasure Valley. We appreciate you!
This was our second Christmas with our Dash. As you can see, he’s grown up quite a bit from last year at this time. He continues to be a happy, healthy and handsome boy. He just has the best disposition and we love him so. We just wanted to let you know that we are so grateful that we got him from you. All the best to our OwyheeStar family. Audrey & Dave
Thank you for sharing this lovely photo of Dash. We are thrilled that he more than met your expectations.
One Year Celebrated
For his 1 year birthday, Pushkin graduated from the advanced obedience course. I was not sure it was going to happen. He was fussing while other people and their dogs were going through their paces so I decided to take him outside for a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, just before we got to the door his training collar came loose. That would not have been too bad if someone had not dropped a pork roll on the floor. He spied that, ran over and got it and took off like a bat out of Hades. He was all over the facility and would not respond to a recall as he knew he was in trouble.I finally got him to sit and did a return and grabbed him by the scruff. Jennifer (the trainer) came over and held him while I got his collar back on. We waited until all of the other dogs finished and then went through the commands. He behaved quite well.
I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving.PS: These two flowers apparently do not realize that it is November
Celebrating One Year
Our girl is 1 year old today. Freyja is the best!
We use all kind of positive adjectives –maybe we just say she is awesome. We celebrated her birthday–she is definitely much loved.
We are happy to celebrate right along with you. In light of the new Dixie X Boone litter, it is beyond excellent to have this update. Everyone will appreciate it. Thanks and Happy Birthday to Freyja.
Pushkin and Zula Blue
~Zula Claimed the fireside bed
Rain has finally come to the Willamette Valley. The temperatures in the morning are cooler and daylight takes its time in arriving. Each of the dogs got a new pillow and miss Zula immediately claimed the one right in front of the fireplace. I do enjoy seeing pictures of her pups on your blog.
~ Bed is a Bed is a Bed
Pushkin and I are almost done with the advanced obedience class. We will be working on sharpening his skills over the holidays and hopefully will take the CGC test after the holidays. He is a natural at agility. The only problem we have at this point is getting him to slow down enough for me to keep up with him. He is fearless when it comes to trying something new.Marie
We think it is extraordinary that Pushkin is fearless with new things. I think it is fair to say, that many a Weim person wishes their friend was open to new things. (Haha)
We look forward to hearing more about the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and the agility work. Thank you, for your tireless training efforts–and for the fabulous Golden Year Home for Miss Zula. We are happy to see her warming her bones.
Taunting the Weim
~or Nector Seeking
I thought you might enjoy the picture of Pushkin. The hummingbirds sit in the large rose bush at the end of the patio and Push can see them through the sliding glass door. He seems to think that he could catch them if I would only let him out.
I have to clean the door daily with all the dog prints on it.
We started advanced obedience class this week. Part of the class is also agility. Push loves the tunnels, the table, and the plank. Next week we shall see if he will jump through the hoop. Great dog.
BTW ZooBoo is doing well
Thank you, Marie, for the fun update on the two Weims. We are happy with all you are doing. Keep up the effort–it pays huge dividends.
