Tilman

~ Part Two

I still have plans for Tilman. I had hoped to start training for therapy dog certification in March or April and unfortunately, due to the virus, that has been put on hold. We’re using this time to learn to walk on a flat buckle collar, which is a requirement of the therapy dog. Tilman graduated from a head harness to a martingale collar with ease and I’m sure moving to a regular collar will also not phase him. He is a Weim through and through and let me know when he was done with the crate and head harness. These were two things he was started with as a pup and as he got older decided that he didn’t really like either that much. He understood that he was being given the opportunity to prove that he could be a good pup without either of these tools, and has succeeded in keeping his freedom from both.

This sweet and goofy boy is everything I wanted and we are such a good match. He is mostly calm but always ready to go if I am. Tilman is clearly an only child as he will seek my attention to play however, if I’m busy or have played enough, he will simply entertain himself. He is such a happy guy always smiling with his tail held high.

Thanks for what you do for the Weimaraner breed! Tilman is such a fine example of your experience and passion.

Tilman is gorgeous, and you have done well with him. Of course, from the moment we first spoke, I never doubted you would succeed. Thank you for the lovely update–everyone enjoyed seeing him. There were quite a few comments and likes. Have a beautiful summer.

Tilman

~Part One

My sweet boy just turned two in March and he is just the best. He lives a semi-charmed life in downtown Saint Paul where we walk 2 to 3 miles every morning together and then he goes out a few times a week on pack walks with a group of other dogs that live in the neighborhood along with a good friend of mine, who is also a dog trainer. He LOVES going for walks with his friends! He is so proud and whenever a new dog is added to the pack, he wants to show them how to do it, “This is how we walk”.

He is THE GOOFIEST dog I’ve ever met. He smiles at me when I come home and he is so affectionate, leaning into hugs and giving lots of kisses. I have only had short hairs prior to Tilman and I have to say that in the last 6 months, his fluff has really come into it’s own. He is three different colors of Weim and the hair behind his shoulders, down his back and on his entire torso has turned into this long bunny soft light colored hair. He gets complimented all the time about what a gorgeous boy he is!

Tilman is an extraordinary example of the breed. He is curious and sometimes cautious but not fearful. He looks to me for his cues. He is friendly and loves everyone he meets. He is whip smart and will learn anything you can think to teach him so fast. He is a helper and wants see and smell and try everything. He loves to learn and show what he knows and was a breeze to train because he is so eager to please however, like any willful breed, I have needed to remain consistent with his training. TIlman also loves the water but is still hesitant to swim much. He will not hesitate to lay in a mud puddle, however.

Take care– Emily and Tilman (and little big sister Nara, the Chihuahua)

At The Vet

Life With Mr. Tilman

     ~ He is a delight

IMG_20180619_192105_654.jpgI just wanted to give you an update as we had our vet appointment last night and Mr. Tilman weighed in at 25 lbs! He sure is growing like a weed!
He is the sweetest, most happy boy and we are so loving him! He has recently discovered birds and squirrels and anything that moves is VERY intriguing. We just started puppy obedience and of course, he is showing off that he already knows sit, down, shake and come. What an absolute joy he is!
Take care, Emily

Mr. Tilman, you are lovely. I am totally biased–openly admit it. We are hoping you continue to do well. You have a big job. Your Mama has big plans for you. (Haha)

I love that you have such a fabulous life–keep up the excellent obedience. Your job is to make others smile if nothing else.

Typical Weimar Puppy

Hello!

Here is an update on Mr. Tilman.

IMG_20180519_093118_513We have been home for almost two weeks now and as with everything with him, we have advanced out of the honeymoon period early! It’s hard to believe he is only 10 weeks old as he is super smart and eager to please (for a treat, of course.) He knows how to sit and just learned to shake. He is also sitting right away when we get on the elevator like a good boy and loves meeting new people and other dogs. He is, like any Weim, headstrong and wanting to decide things for himself. He takes direction really well 90% of the time. He certainly does like to argue that 10% though! And scream like I’m torturing him when I’m simply holding his harness and making him stay. Little stinker!
He is the sweetest cuddly little bear cub when he is just waking up. My favorite is waking him up in the morning to go outside because he is such a little sweetie. He has been sleeping through the night since day two which is amazing and he really likes his crate. I have the life stages crate and have had to adjust it for him already. He is so tall and at our vet appointment last week, he weighed 17 lbs!20180519_154926
I have been keeping him in a 3.5 ft metal fence type playpen during the day but yesterday he figured out he can climb out of it! So we are now crating during the day also. I think the playpen made him anxious anyway. He also figured out how to jump on and off the couch within just a few days of being home.
Otherwise, he is a typical puppy. We are working on potty training which is proving to be a lot of work in an apartment! He knows right where to go when we get outside so I’m not worried about it. Once he gets a little more bladder control he’ll be doing great! A quick explanation about the potty training. He does awesome in his crate. Absolutely no messes and has never pooped in the house. But occasionally when he’s playing he will just stop and pee without warning and not long after we were out. A schedule for him has made a tremendous difference and he’s getting better every day! And of course, positive reinforcement works wonders!
He is doing great and everyone comments on how beautiful he his and how nice he is. He is perfectly happy entertaining himself if need be and likes to observe everything! Sometimes he just lays out on the lobby floor of my building and watches people come and go.

I’ve attached a few pictures of him for you. I love him so much and am looking forward to seeing what this boy can do! My little Chihuahua, Nara, could do without him but luckily for her, he can’t get on the bed yet so she at least has a “safe place” for now.
