Sadie cannot be Replaced

We will never forget her………

Midge is a pint-sized blue female; who is inserting her paws into the family. We feel certain that Miss Sadie would wholeheartedly endorse this decision.

Aaron set up for her arrival; Terra made a road trip to pick her up.

Midge

It seems she is a west coast girl of a special sort. Her grandmother is Deli–you might remember that Deli turned 14 in January. Deli has a Facebook Album–click here! Little Midge, has big paw-prints to fill. Sadie is sorely missed by all; Midge won’t make up for the loss in any sense of the word. Regardless, the hope is Midge will be a welcome addition who fills in a portion of the hole left upon Sadie’s unexpected departure.

Cliff took her out for a little romp around the farm. He captured some pretty cute photos of her don’t you think?

Breeder’s Note: We have known Colt’s parents for a goodly number of years. We consider them seriously addicted to the Weimaraner virus.

Remi, Sadie, and Colt

Remi, Sadie, and Colt

They currently live with three OwyheeStar Weims–Sadie (the older silver-gray girl), Colt (the blue boy featured here), and Remi (the crazy gray longhair). I mean crazy in the best of ways. We cannot thank this couple enough for all they do for these three Weims. They lead extraordinary lives of a special sort. Here are a few photos snatched from the library we have collected. We hope they make you smile. They gave us several smiles ❤

March Madness of a Special Kind

1981150_729041773796797_555097135_oThree of a Kind

We all know about March Madness, and the Sweet-Sixteen of famed Collegiate Basketball. March is a month when the unexpected dances with that for which we hope. Cabin fever is brushed aside, and despite the fickle weather, we get outside. Unfortunately, this can mean muddy paws–human and other. The battle of keeping the mud outside for some is unending.

No Yard Mud; Try the Dog Park

City-dwellers, for the most part, can avoid this scenario, but those living in a rural setting wonder if they will ever get rid of the mud. The battle continues despite all efforts to keep the mud on the porch. Wiping four paws that go and come twenty times a day is arduous at best. Facebook posts were plentiful describing the muddy-paw madness. Most of you who were in the thick of the situation live in the country, and have more than one set of paws. Terra took her crew to the dog-park where they played their heart out, and thoroughly enjoyed the mud.

Shotgun; Glad to see you, but in the back Dad!

Breeder’s Note: Yes, Aaron and Terra have three Weimaraners. One is older–a traditional gray ghost girl named Sadie. She is thin, because she has a sensitive tummy. She gets the best of the best, but then which one of these wonderful Weimar kids doesn’t? Colt is the blue boy you see dashing around in these photos. He has been somewhat eclipsed by Remi’s arrival.

Remi is a longhair born to Greta’s 2013 litter sired by Stackhouse. Stories abound of these three Weims; however, Sadie pretty much wants the boys to let her alone. She thinks they are too wild for her taste. They play hard, and come up with unique ways to get in trouble. We cannot thank Terra and Aaron enough for their love of the three, and all they have done with them. We value their relationship. Knowing that it is enhanced by these wonderful additions, makes it worth all the effort. They are more than clients to us.

Weimar Addicts

It began with Sadie…

We met Terra when she acquired Sadie (an OwyheeStar puppy born to a mating between Penny and Dash) from us. Penny and Dash retired a long time ago, and Dash has since gone over the rainbow bridge. Due to Terra and Aaron’s love for the breed, they volunteered to foster a couple of rescue Weims (Luke and Leia). They fell in love with them and adopted them. Over the years, they provided loads of love, care, and the best of everything. About two years ago they lost Luke and this last week Leia joined Luke and the notorious Dash, making her own trip across the rainbow bridge.

Terra and Colt after graduation

Then there was Colt!

Two years ago Terra contacted us about getting another puppy.

Luke

They knew that Luke was failing. He could not be replaced, but not having a male, was unthinkable. This time it was to be a blue male! For the last two years, since Luke’s passing, they have been a three Weim family. This week that changed.

Terra reports (November 12, 2011 ): We lost Leia on Monday.  She was the rescue we’d gotten (with her brother Luke) about a year before we got Colt.  She had a horrible weekend last weekend while I was away celebrating my daughters 21st birthday with her in Vegas.  Aaron was home trying to keep Leia comfortable until I returned, not wanting to upset us on the trip.  When we took her to see the vet on Monday however, we had to make the decision to put her to sleep as her organs were shutting down – kidney and liver failure, extreme high temp and heartbeat unstable and too fast.

It’s odd having had one, then three, then four and now two Weims.  Funny how through that cycle this would be the first time we’ve had just two… Colt and Sadie… the OwyheeSTARs! They are both doing very well and although Colt is even a bit more snugly than usual (who would have imagined THAT to be possible!), he seems to barely notice Leia’s departure.  I find myself cherishing each of them more then ever and I know Aaron is as well.  Two is feeling like a very good number for us right now.  Very manageable.  Taking all three of them to the dog park or other places on my own… it was HARD WORK!  I always wanted Aaron or Kirsty to be with me to help out.  I’m looking forward to getting up early tomorrow and taking these two babies to the dog park, just them and me!  Tomorrow is supposed to be far less rainy than today, but we shall see!

My friend and co-worker is getting a new pup in 2 weeks (an English Bulldog)  and watching the process from a bit more of a distance, I realize yet again how truly blessed we all are to have you and Cliff as a constant in our lives. We appreciate the invaluable website, posts, blogs (and of course the fun pictures!) as well as just knowing you’re there when something comes up. You are both truly amazing and I just wanted to say thank you once again for all you do!

Breeder’s Note: Now Terra and Aaron are down to two Weims, which are much more manageable.

Sadie & Colt

Taking on a rescue is a huge responsibility. The amount of effort, love, devotion, and the level of their commitment cannot be measured. That doesn’t count the money spent to keep them both in the best food and Vet care available. Kudos to this family that made a difference for two Weims that someone else turned into rescue. We thank Aaron and Terra for all they have done with and for their two OwyheeStar Weims. Sadie and Colt are well-adjusted. They have the best of everything!

Bells….

Terras Colt

Housebreaking

Made Easy……

I kept meaning to tell you, but keep forgetting!  Way back when… when Colt was “growing big enough to come to his forever home” and my every waking moment was spent on your website and/or wandering mindlessly through the local pet stores, you had some information on your website about using bells for housebreaking, which I purchased, and as promised, they worked GREAT for housebreaking.

The HALARIOUS part is that we never took them down because he still uses the bells because we can’t see the door from the living room… Colt is the only one that uses them; the girls don’t.  Anyway, Colt learned very early on that the bells didn’t really mean “I need to go potty”, they mean, “mommy comes running”.

Sooooo… 6 a.m., Colt’s ready for breakfast, “RING”, 6 p.m., Colt’s ready for dinner, “RING”, any time water bowl becomes empty, “RING”, Colt’s favorite ball has gotten lodged under the furniture, “RING”.  I’m pretty sure that in Colt’s incredibly genius brain that little “ring” means “Human servants, come here, NOW”.

If only there where different sounds for different “needs”, so we don’t have to guess what he wants (sometimes he’s confused about what time dinner is “served”, lol).

Chelsea writes of her two Weimars using the Potty Bells…

Here we are day 2 and already we are in amazement at the dynamic between Shale and Miles.  Shale has proven to be smart as a tack and Miles has taken on the role of big(er) brother very well.

He is still a clumsy puppy and sometimes gets too excited and steps all over her but the minute he realizes or she squeaks he starts kissing her and babying her.

Shale Learns to Ring the Bell…….

Miles rings a bell that hangs on the door to go out and potty, Shale has already in the 24 hours we have had her begun ringing the bell when she wants to go out to potty.  Big brother and little sister are two peas in a pod. Shale is already stuck to us like velcro, always wanting to be on top of our feet or in our laps, we love her to pieces.  We are being very careful not to let Miles feel at all that he is being replaced, he gets alone time and kisses often and special walks with Mom and Dad.  Thank you so much for both of our fur babies, they really are our world and we would do anything for them.

William Wegman’s beloved Weimaraner Photos made them coffeetable talk.

He dressed them and propped them making them appear human. Those of us who live with them attest to their human-like personna!

Colt Christmas...

Terra and her family live with 2 OwyheeStar Weimaraners. They have been a part of our extended Weimaraner family for many years. She has shared her ups-and-downs. She has shared her scares. She has shared a lot of heartwarming and funny moments. Recently she wrote us a funny story we wanted to share with you.

Terra wrote:

Just after I emailed you last night the little turkey amazed me once more… As you may recall,  I mentioned that the two of them LOVE their sweaters and sweathshirts.  Kirsty had bought Colt these silly Halloween pajamas, but they didnt’ fit him right, so I kept taking them off him (and Kirsty kept putting them back on).

Weimar PJs

Last night I was getting ready to start a load of wash and was sorting clothes and Colt came in to “assist”.  The little turkey sticks his head in the hamper, rumages around for a sec, and sure enough, very gently pulls the pajamas out from under several other items.  There he is standing there with his pj’s in his mouth, like he actually wanted to make sure I was going to wash them.  Sometimes these dogs are so smart is almost creepy!

Colt from Port Orchard, WA

Dear Mom ……

Hi, it’s me, Colt.  I just wanted to wish you a very happy Mother’s Day. I’m spending today with my new mom of course, because this is where I live now, but I haven’t forgoten you, and without you, I wouldn’t have my new family either!

Things here in Port Orchard are going great.  Mom and I got to school every Saturday, and I’ve completed both Basic and Intermediate Classes.  We’ll be starting Advanced Class in July.  I’m pretty smart but the teacher get frustrated because all the customers in the store keep stopping mommy to talk about how cool I am.  They say I’m beautiful and they want to know what kind of dog I am and all kids of stuff and mommy is just so proud of me, get gets distracted bragging about me.

I’m smelling lots of great things in the kitchen but I have a feeling I won’t get much.  I hope you have better luck than me, especially since you’re a Mom!

Anyway, I’m attaching some pictures so you can see how I look now.

Colt & Sadie

I’m getting pretty big and I’m as tall as Sadie and Leia, but everyone says I haven’t “filled out” yet.  Mom says I’m little.  She still calls me her baby.  Sadie is in a few of the pictures too.  She asked me to ask you to tell her mom (Auntie Penny) Happy Mothers Day too.  And be sure to give Grandma Shela a big Mother’s Day kiss too!

Anyway, have a great day Mom.  I love you!

Love,
Colt

Thanks for remembering your original Mom too….

Colt Christmas 2009

Here are some pix of our babies from Christmas. Colt FINALLY starts “school” tomorrow.  He’s got the basic commands down just fine, I’m really the one who needs the class, as I’m sure is common with Weim owners.  He’s too smart for his own good, I just need to be firm!   He’s SO spoiled!  His new weird thing he does is getting up on the back of the couch (like a cat) and wrapping himself around my neck… funny little guy!  His only real pending issue is his weird jumping thing, which is really more of a “chest bump” or a “body slam” that he thinks is a super fun way to greet me when I come home.  Little turkey!
