Sherlock (Part Four)
~ From Lilah – Age 12
Sherlock has been a dream come true, honestly. The years leading up to him coming home, I wanted a dog SO BADLY!!! I remember the day he came home, from the way all three of us stacked up to peer through the tall window next to the door, to the way he stumbled as his frightened eyes caught the first glance of his siblings. He was right to be frightened, we would tear up his peaceful life with his little puppy siblings and his momma and change it into one full of adventure, kisses, hugs, and so many memories. He’s a crazy dog, one that lights up our lives so much. For the almost 4 years we’ve had him, I’ve looked forward to seeing him in the morning, coming back from my Mom’s to see him, and just doing anything with him. His reaction tells us he feels the same way, first howling as he’s awoken from his sleep, then catching a glance of us from the bend in the stairs, and then still howling but somehow whining and spinning in circles with his tail an invisible blur, as he rockets over to his bed where he waits while we make our entrance. Having that welcome home is always something I look forward to. Who knew, an animal, someone we can’t understand or be understood by, could love so much and just be such an individual.
He’s got this way of knowing when you’re upset, and just being there. He’s a cuddler, and can be found most of the time under the covers, taking up the entire bed in my brothers room, where he usually sleeps. When he’s not with Lucas, he’s somewhere else, laying on top of someone and being sooo cute. He’s an example of how loving we can all be – if all we do is think about food, hikes, sleep, and his hoomans. Even if we can’t all be like Sherlock, a cute little bug that is literally only a heart with legs, we can all think about how we can be happier and make people happier. I couldn’t imagine my life without Sherlock, and I’m so happy I don’t have to. He’s a part of our lives that brings us all together, from laughing at him being a nut, to all hiking with him, or taking him to the park and watching his victory laps as he proudly struts around, bragging that he caught his ball. He’s so incredible, and has taught me so much about life and living it. Thank you, Buddy.

We love your description, Lilah, of life with Sherlock. It is fabulous to have a different perspective. Cliff and I cannot be happier that he fills your life with joy and mirth–it is why we do what we do.
