Dependable Porsche

Just had to share this with you. The picture was not taken in a mirror.
Last Tuesday morning (May 4th), I fell cutting my left arm. The local ER stitched me up. On our evening walk, I realized that I needed Porsche to walk on my right side to prevent possible re-injury. She has always heeled on my left. We thought of a new command word, Fall-in. Within five minutes and an undisclosed number of cookies, she was coming around to my right side when I said Fall-in. The next morning, she did fine until we started walking. I am sure she thought I was crazy not to do it as we always had. With lots of praise and more cookies, we accomplished a short walk with her on the right. That evening, there was still some confusion, but she complied. This morning we covered our entire walk route with her happily on the right. Praise and some repetition of the Fall-in command helped plus a few cookies. The crowning glory was when we got home. I re-introduced the Heel command. She happily moved to my left side. When I said Fall-in, she went back to the right side. It brought tears to my eyes. It amazed me how quickly she seemed to realize the need to do this.
Some of us not only love our dogs to pieces, we also depend upon them. To have such a cooperative intelligent dog is certainly the cherry on top a delicious sundae.
Thank you for letting me have Porsche.

Dear JuneAnn–we are happy to know you are more than okay, and that Porsche has been so amazingly adaptable. We love this account of her Service Dog work with you. Thank you for sharing that with us.
