~ Grandpa Will Reports–Part Two
At Ace’s first checkup he was 13 lbs. and I am anxious to hear his new weight at his next exam. Ace seems to be very spunky and very smart. He quickly figured out the bells were to go outside and although we have had a few pee accidents, we’ve been happy with his progress, I think we have only had 1 accident in the past 3 weeks and he was a little out of his element for that one, so I don’t count him fully negligent for it. He’s starting to get a small monocle of freedom in the living room where we aren’t watching him at every moment. He’s successfully figured out how to push down the baby gate that we had been using whenever he wants, so we’ve recently put that back in the closet!
The older brother and sister (Murphy and Charlie Mae) still aren’t fans of the puppy, we’ve tried to be patient, but we keep a close eye when the teeth are being bared and have had to let them know our disappointment on a couple occasions for their distaste of Ace. I would have hoped by now (almost 6 weeks at our house) they would be ok with him, but they stil barely tolerate his existence and refuse any interaction with him they can avoid.
Ace has changed so much in the past 6 weeks, he’s fully embraced the dog doors )going both directions) as of this week. He figured out last week he could go out into the garage and lick the floor (YUCK!), so we’ve been discouraging that as best we can! Ace wants nothing more than to love on his big brother and sister and doesn’t seem at all discouraged by their less than welcome reception to his affections.
All in all, things are going well, it’s a good thing puppies are so darn cute, they are sure a bunch of work! We do LOVE him and we are over the TOP proud of our 13 year old and her embrace of her “Dog Mom” duties. Enclosed are a bunch of pictures from the past 6 weeks! Thanks for all the you do for us Shela and Cliff! We love our “Pack”.
What can we say? Elle is not a typical teen–she gets the job done. What a fabulous life-lesson. We are so proud of you! Of course, her parents are in the mix too!
It is great to read how ‘Ace’ is working his way into the heart and soul of his family. Keep watching–I am positive there is another segment to follow soon.
