~ Here’s Our Update

She’s doing great and getting bigger every day. She’s really smart too. She was ringing a bell to go outside and go potty after 3 days of getting her home which was a big surprise. We aren’t accident free by any means but being proactive we’ve stayed pretty close to it. She is definitely a lot more energetic than her testing video let on. She loves to run around the back yard and sit in the sunshine. Much more energetic than our last weimy and a bit of a spaz lol. We’re always trying to make sure she doesn’t hurt herself as she gallops everywhere while still clumsy. She’s been nervous when we try and take her for walks so we don’t usually get far, which makes draining her energy a bit of a challenge. We also had that large snow storm come through which also didn’t help. However we’ve been focusing on small bouts of obedience training everyday to help challenge her mentally and she is doing relatively well at picking things up. I feel like we are just starting to see signs of her relaxing slightly as she’s adjusted to her new life, routines and her new boundaries. 

The latest things she’s learned are to sit, go up and now down our staircase. She will come most times when we call for her, she’s about 50/50 on fetching. I can tell she is very smart, and will definitely need to be challenged.

I don’t think we ever mentioned it but we have been using your recommended Nuvet supplements since bringing her home and she seems to really like them. We’ve also been following your recommended vaccination schedule etc. As you mentioned may happen, our vet had slightly different ideas on it but was happy to follow the recommendations you set forth as we requested.

Our vet believes she does a hernia not one that will be closing on it’s on. We’ll be addressing it when we get her spayed, but I know you mentioned not having them before in your litters so wanted to keep you up to date for your records. We’ll keep you posted if anything changes of course.
I think that’s it at this point. Oh, we’ve registered her microchip as well as her w the AKC. We really appreciate all the time and effort you put in to caring for Luna, it definitely shows.

Thanks ever so much for the update. In our experience these smaller hernias typically will close–but if not then repairing during a spay is the best approach. Thanks too–for taking care of all the business like completing the registration as well as registering the microchip. The latter is essential. Without registering that microchip, it is of little use. Completing the registration online moves the ownership (in the eyes of AKC) from us to you. It helps with the official record-keeping. We truly appreciate you finishing the process.

The NuVet is a fabulous product–yes, they love it. I use the powdered form. A lot of times they will lick their chops when they watch me measuring it to sprinkle on top of their food. I never overuse it–meaning I stick to the recommended amount for the adults and I do use half the amount for young Weims. That is a lengthy discussion–but the human-grade supplements are excellent.
