Are You Covered?

20151222_173757[1]

Picked Up and on the way home.

Should the unthinkable happen–your Weimaraner gets lost, or runs aways are you covered? If you have an OwyheeStar puppy, they left here with a microchip. While that is all good and well, you need to enroll with the  AKC Reunite and get this chip registered to you. When the beloved “Trigger” got away from the yard through an unlatched gate, his return was imminent due to AKC Reunite. You can use the online form or possibly call them. Click Here to access that form. Your number is found on the OwyheeStar Health Record as well as the AKC Reunite pamphlet.

If you have another microchip–no problem, they will register your microchip too! Trigger was Lost, but he made it home again. We are all so very happy his parents had registered with AKC Reunite.

On Blog Last Thursday, we spoke about preparing in advance of the holiday. We hope you find this information useful and that your Weimaraner is sound-proofed before the 4th of July Holiday. If not, then we will discuss other options in a future blog coming soon.

  1. it’s important to be prepared for the worst things, we can sadly not prevent all bad things, but we can try to lower the risks…. btw: have you ever heard about Kali the dog who ran away while he stayed with friends of the owner?

  2. Maizie was never afraid of loud firecracker sounds UNTIL last July at Butchart Gardens in Victoria BC. There was a fireworks display and we were among hundreds of spectators. When the loud pops began and the sky erupted in bright flashes and streams of color, Maizie reacted as if the world was coming to an end. Jerry held her as tight as he could. Her natural reaction was to flee. He shielded her eyes so she wouldn’t have to see the fireworks in the sky. People sitting all around us on the lawn were petting her and speaking to her in soothing words. She was shaking uncontrollably. This is one of the saddest experiences I have lived. We crawled over the masses on the lawn with our sweet girl to get her out of there. It was so traumatic. To this day, a firecracker noise causes her stress. We will plan our 4th of Julys with Maizie in mind from now on.

    • Sadly this ingrained the fear. I think it is best to avoid events like this, but a lot of people take part without a problem. Too bad.

      • Yes, there were other dogs there with their families who were unaffected. Since Maizie was never bothered by firecracker sounds before, it was shocking to experience her reaction. 😰
