This Week at OwyheeStar

Greetings From OwyheeStar

Zula's First Born Male_-8Back to School and the fall harvest are moving forward despite the fact the Pacific Northwest is literally on fire. National news has made the nation aware of what is going on because there are nearly a hundred fires blazing through rangeland and forest. The fire has overtaken homes and struck a lethal blow to firefighters. The losses of life and property have been tragic. We must not forget the wildlife also flee as it is possible; yet, some were overtaken and lost. It touches our heart to know that despite valiant efforts several wild horses were lost in the Soda Springs fire. The BLM is already gathering what they need to replant native seed to the area. It (burned off rangeland) must be replanted (the BLM experts say) no later than Thanksgiving. Eventually, the horses will be turned loose. The nearly 300,000-acre burn would not support them at this time. Sagebrush plants are supposedly being grown, but surely there will not be enough. Regrowth will be slow, and it will be a long time before we see it return to what we were accustomed. Not everything is about the fire, but it has overshadowed our thoughts of late.

The Summer Puppy Exit happened this week too! We still have two waiting to go to their new home. Jill flies into Boise on Tuesday. People ask how we can let these beautiful creatures leave. The key to doing this is to realize they are not really yours in the first place. You are doing this to bless others; it is our responsibility to ensure they go to a good placement. Sometimes the most loving thing to do is to realize that you cannot hang on too tight. The OwyheeStar process is about preparing them for success. It thrills our hearts when we see an OwyheeStar bringing joy to someone. They are fulfilling their purpose. Isn’t that what everyone should do?

This Week on the Blog

We are once again thankful for the updates that make this possible! We are a bit thin on the material we need to work with, but there was enough.

Sunday— August 16 — Sunday View

Monday — August 17 — Another Two Weim Family

Tuesday — August 18 – Maize in Canada

Wednesday — August 19— Lyra Comes of Age

Thursday  — August 20—It’s Official

Friday  — August 21—Home In Nampa Idaho

On a very personal note

I have positive news. My Oncologist agreed to give me a reprieve for a year with my promise to call if anything comes up. The Lymphedema is not as cooperative, but I have other doctors and a physical therapist helping me with this issue. The swelling is most certainly improved. The arm still has a couple of hard lumps in the forearm, but at least it is not due to a blood clot. I still have to be super careful when using my left arm–keyboarding, exercise, and carrying stuff all require restraint. That is not an easy thing.

Oh my gosh, speaking of our personal lives. The farmhouse remodel process continues; however it is a bit like walking in mud up to your ankles–slow and tough going. Cliff finished the master walk-in closet, a bit of finish work in the guest room, and a few other things that had to be done to move forward. Deven was mudding the office storage closet on Friday. A few shelves and I can put the extra supplies away leaving room for the ones I use more often. Baby steps are the mode. Everything we complete is a happy moment in my heart.

As Always

Thank you for your love and support. Keep the puppy updates coming–as I said above, I am running low on material. I need them for inspiration, and they brighten our day. Yes, and allow us to have something to share.

  1. I’m glad for all the good news and I’m that your farmhouse will be an artpiece. I’ve learnt something today, what’s super important:” they are not really yours in the first place”… thanks, that’s REALLY the key :o)
