Tomorrow Looms Large on the Horizon

Celebrating our Independence
We are so fortunate to live where we have freedom and choices. We should never use that in the wrong way, or forget what it cost. It is good to celebrate, but the underlying meaning of the event is often loss on the window dressing.
Today, the original copy of the Declaration is housed in the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and July 4 has been designated a national holiday to commemorate the day the United States laid down its claim to be a free and independent nation.
Generations later the depth of meaning has been lost. I am sorry to say it takes a back seat many times to ice cream, watermelon, fireworks, and hot dogs. The importance of the family gatherings cannot be lost; however, the reason we can gather and wave our flag is because of the sacrifice of others. The tail wagging Weimaraner is free to roam about our yard, and to continue their Weim-type-applause (and sometimes their annoying barking) because we breathe in non-restricted air. No one says we cannot worship our God, or choose to be an atheist. At least not yet. The rumbles in our society cause us to quake a bit. The implications of what freedom the constitution would bring was not evident to those drafting it; however, they knew what freedom from oppression meant. They understood having a choice, and the need to be free from over taxation. Their tax dollars were going to pay for what they didn’t want as well as things they detested. They had no effect on those ruling them or trying to enforce what they were escaping when they came to the New World.
Others have always wanted to imprint their beliefs and ideas on those surrounding them. Despite this the melting pot worked, and America grew into a great nation. Christians have worked to proselytize and convert as many they possible. Non-Christians have put their effort into changing society and imprinting the mind with other than Biblical underpinnings. There are many who believe there is no God, or at least not a relevant one. There are those that cling to Biblical truths that were prevalent at the time of our America’s inception. The latter, while not united in every truth, are those that keep their eyes on someone larger than understanding. They live by faith. Whichever side of the face you reside should allow the other to have the freedom to make a choice. If we throw barbs back and forth what will become of us? Honestly, the reason we have a great nation is because of the sacrifice and patriotic unity. Without a oneness and solidarity, we fear what our great nation and its freedom will become.
