This Week at OwyheeStar

Greetings From OwyheeStar

We have oppressive summer heat pressing on us. Triple digit temps are a reality. We might say it was right at 110 degrees (yesterday) without being considered out of line. We don’t care what the official report says, it is predicting a rise in the temperature today, and tomorrow.

It is too hot to be out. This unseasonal extreme heat is affecting us in many ways. The evaporation factor is playing havoc with the shortage of water. Keeping yourself, family members, and your pets hydrated may prove challenging.

The summer pups are slated to leave today. Most of them are going to a much cooler location. Nevertheless, the heat is not the only challenge they are poised to face. The fireworks have already begun, and we expect the crescendo will only rise over the next few days. With that in mind, you need to be prepared.

  1. Bring the right attitude–you can ingrain the fear of loud noises by simply doing the most natural thing–“poor baby” is best set on the shelf. Instead, move forward, and have a calm heart no matter how much they irritate you.  The more you stay calm, and matter of fact, the easier this will be to get through. If your Weimaraner is already afraid of loud noises, then consider a thunder coat. Again, don’t continue to console them. This establishes their fears are warranted.
  2. Acclimate them to noise. Some folks suggest moving their crate near the laundry center. Making a noise (with a metal pan) some distance away and moving closer (so the sound increases) can help too. Make sure they are doing something fun in another room, or away from the person making the sound. Keep the sound very light at first, and try to make it so they don’t notice the person making the sound. It should be the in the background and as possible gradually increase the sound. If done right, this helps them to acquaint noise with something good.

The Week on the Blog….

We are once again thankful for the updates that make this possible! We are a bit thin on material to work with, but there was enough.

Sunday June 21— Smile Its Father’s Day

Monday June 22— The Color of Dirt

Tuesday June 23 – Blue Baby Joy

Wednesday June 24— In Command

Thursday  June 25—Beautiful Friends Begin Here

Friday  June 26— Puppy Parenting 101

On a very personal note……

We have been engaged on every level. The farmhouse renovation continues, I am still doing the post cancer treatment. Maybe it will be a forever thing.

As Always…

Thank you for your love and support. Keep the puppy updates coming–as I said above, I am running low on the material. I need them for inspiration, and they brighten our day. Yes, and allow us to have something to share.

  1. It maybe has something to be welcomed with a firework, but I bet this cute pups would rather prefer a toy or a chewing stick :o)
We all cross our paws+fingers for you that the pains and the side and aftereffects of the treatment go away…
