Bayou is doing great
Bayou (the blue Weimar pictured here) has been doing fantastic! We go to the beach a lot and though she does not seem to ever want to touch the water she has a great time. Here are a few shots from the last couple months!
Breeder’s Note: Although the Weimaraner has webbed feet and can become an adapt swimmer, rarely does this happen naturally. Young pups can (and will swim) if set down into the water. The best body of water for working with the water-retrieve is a sloping-edged pond. The Weimaraner that loves the retrieve can be worked into the water. A lot of patience, and more than a little knack goes a long way toward achieving success. Consistent effort (combined with the a-fore-mentioned) will get positive results. Eventually, the Weimaraner will become comfortable (going beyond playing in the shallow water).
Discouragement, frustration, and a lack of patience are counterproductive. At first (once you get them swimming); it might seem that they will never do more than a dog-paddle. However, with consistent exposure, they can become a strong swimmer.
Below is Wendy (Lake Oswego, OR) with Rupert. They make it look easy. :O)
