Weimar Addicts

It began with Sadie…

We met Terra when she acquired Sadie (an OwyheeStar puppy born to a mating between Penny and Dash) from us. Penny and Dash retired a long time ago, and Dash has since gone over the rainbow bridge. Due to Terra and Aaron’s love for the breed, they volunteered to foster a couple of rescue Weims (Luke and Leia). They fell in love with them and adopted them. Over the years, they provided loads of love, care, and the best of everything. About two years ago they lost Luke and this last week Leia joined Luke and the notorious Dash, making her own trip across the rainbow bridge.

Then there was Colt!

Two years ago Terra contacted us about getting another puppy.

They knew that Luke was failing. He could not be replaced, but not having a male, was unthinkable. This time it was to be a blue male! For the last two years, since Luke’s passing, they have been a three Weim family. This week that changed.

Terra reports (November 12, 2011 ): We lost Leia on Monday.  She was the rescue we’d gotten (with her brother Luke) about a year before we got Colt.  She had a horrible weekend last weekend while I was away celebrating my daughters 21st birthday with her in Vegas.  Aaron was home trying to keep Leia comfortable until I returned, not wanting to upset us on the trip.  When we took her to see the vet on Monday however, we had to make the decision to put her to sleep as her organs were shutting down – kidney and liver failure, extreme high temp and heartbeat unstable and too fast.

It’s odd having had one, then three, then four and now two Weims.  Funny how through that cycle this would be the first time we’ve had just two… Colt and Sadie… the OwyheeSTARs! They are both doing very well and although Colt is even a bit more snugly than usual (who would have imagined THAT to be possible!), he seems to barely notice Leia’s departure.  I find myself cherishing each of them more then ever and I know Aaron is as well.  Two is feeling like a very good number for us right now.  Very manageable.  Taking all three of them to the dog park or other places on my own… it was HARD WORK!  I always wanted Aaron or Kirsty to be with me to help out.  I’m looking forward to getting up early tomorrow and taking these two babies to the dog park, just them and me!  Tomorrow is supposed to be far less rainy than today, but we shall see!

My friend and co-worker is getting a new pup in 2 weeks (an English Bulldog)  and watching the process from a bit more of a distance, I realize yet again how truly blessed we all are to have you and Cliff as a constant in our lives. We appreciate the invaluable website, posts, blogs (and of course the fun pictures!) as well as just knowing you’re there when something comes up. You are both truly amazing and I just wanted to say thank you once again for all you do!

Breeder’s Note: Now Terra and Aaron are down to two Weims, which are much more manageable.

Sadie & Colt

Taking on a rescue is a huge responsibility. The amount of effort, love, devotion, and the level of their commitment cannot be measured. That doesn’t count the money spent to keep them both in the best food and Vet care available. Kudos to this family that made a difference for two Weims that someone else turned into rescue. We thank Aaron and Terra for all they have done with and for their two OwyheeStar Weims. Sadie and Colt are well-adjusted. They have the best of everything!
