Winston at 1 Year!

Winston is now 1 Year Old!

Here is a bit about our journey together during the first year….

In the beginning........

Rebecca Reports……

Life with Winston has been such a blessing.  I was telling a friend yesterday that although we have definitely had our challenges, Winston has turned into the ideal dog for me.

All that work definitely paid off!  There are still a couple little quirks that we work on, but I feel so grateful to have him in my life everyday.

He has become the ultimate city dog – sitting or laying under tables at outside cafes while we eat (many stores in Portland are pet friendly so he comes along on most of my errands and has won the hearts of several store owners!).

He has also become a champion retriever which I had doubts would ever happen!

Winston was neutered at 9 months.  They found a hernia at the time of the surgery which was lucky as they went in at the same time to repair it.  Other than that, his health has been wonderful.  I discovered that he has spring allergies which was more humorous than harmful as he sneezed quite frequently for about 10 days anytime we were outside, but that soon passed.

Breeder’s Comment: What living creature doesn’t have something. It appears Winston has two of the most common minor problems–a small hernia and allergies. If it is the worst that ever happens we will count our blessings all the way around.

One thing we cannot stress enough is that you must be patient and work with the breed’s tendency. People who try to make them into something they are not or push them beyond their limits have problems. Patience and a knack yield huge dividends. We have never said these guys were easy but it can be accomplished! Great job with Winston!

Hanging out together!

Winston is about the friendliest dog you can imagine.  He surpassed my expectations in his interactions with other humans.  He is a constant love-bug and often seeks affection from others.  He is always very well behaved with other dogs although he doesn’t seem to have much of an interest in playing with others of his species.  He would much rather get attention from the owners than play with the dogs!

Most of these photos of Winston were taken during the last 6 months.  Thank you for sharing them with everyone……….

Keep up the Great Work……

Winston is a Gem….
