Ode to a Storm…….

Storm has been a lot of things ….Storm was our very first Blue!!

She has worn many crowns and titles:

Prima Donna, Queen Bee, Supreme Pain, Pill, and Super Mama to name a few. We have truly been blessed by her addition and the combination of her DNA seems to weave perfectly with our various Studs. Her first litter was with our beloved (since departed over the rainbow bridge) Dash. Then she was mated to Zeke followed by two matings with Dusty. Last year she produced a really nice litter with Zee. Most recently, we returned to Zeke and kept a pup for the future.

In some ways, Storm is an easy-keeper and other ways she makes her presence known. She always has her demands and she is vocal about letting you know that you have fallen short of her expectations. On the other hand, she is not destructive and we used to leave her and Dash running free in the house with access to our fenced backyard. She is trustworthy. You can expect Storm to be the same pretty much every day.

Recently, we have been doing some Internet housekeeping. This last week rapped up our update on Storm’s puppy pages (Click Here). When you drop in for a read, scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the special navigation bar. We refer to that navigation bar as Storm’s offspring navigation bar and it is filled with links.  Links that document success. Read about Storm and you will discover she surprised us with our first longhair puppies. We did not even have a clue that she could be a longhair carrier. It was during the second mating with Dusty when we discovered that he was like Storm is a longhair carrier. We too, were blessed (during the second mating between Storm and Dusty) with the arrival of our very own Benton.

Benton and more recently Sage (from the last mating with Zeke) ensure her legacy will remain intact and prospering at OwyheeStar. Of course, we would not mate Benton and Sage’s offspring but we have other options. Benton has sired three litters (Click on these 3 links to read more about Benton’s previous pups: True X Benton Updates, Rosie X Benton Updates, and  Moxie X Benton Updates ). We believe him to carry the homozygous blue DNA factor which means he isn’t capable of producing a gray puppy. Therefore, if we mate any female to Benton we can expect that we will get all blue puppies. This is a great advantage if you need several quality blue pups. If not, then we can go with a different Stud and get either an all gray or mixed color litter.

Sage at 6 Weeks!

Sage (Storm X Zeke 2009) is a silver gray female. We are calling her OwyheeStar’s Silver Sage. She is

very young at this point in time but in a couple of years you can expect to see her make her first appearance. She is very light in color. We do not know at this time if she is a long hair carrier. It may not be necessary to test because unless we were to mate her to a Long Hair Stud we probably would not need to worry about long hair puppies. Zee nor Blue are longhair carriers.  This would only become a factor if we mated her to Dusty (a longhair carrier). That would certainly be an option in that she is not related to Dusty. Benton would not be an option (in our breeding protocol) because Benton’s mother was Storm.

When you visit Storm’s puppy web pages and read the stories about her various pups you will see a pattern. Storm’s pups are entertaining, challenging, smart, fast, light-footed, and probably only limited by their owner’s investment and understanding.

Stay tuned over the next 5-10 days we will be brining you more updates from Storm’s recent litter. Sage is excited to hear what the other kids are doing. She is busy every day and normally trains with Cliff in the afternoon. She has training mates that go on a run with her. She plays hard. She is a tribute to her mother.
